Basketball Recap: Cony Extends Winning Streak to Three

After losing to Brewer the last time they met, Cony decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Cony Rams walked away with a 68-60 win over the Brewer Witches on Saturday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Rams' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Witches are ranked 16th).

Despite the loss, Brewer had strong showings from Owen Fullerton, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds, and Ollie Higgins, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards. Those nine rebounds gave Fullerton a new career-high. Jake Perry was another key player, putting up five points and five assists.

The win was the third in a row for Cony, bringing their record for this year to 5-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Brewer, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-2.

Cony has already played their next game, a 51-48 loss against Massabesic on the 14th. As for Brewer, they will challenge Camden Hills at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Camden Hills' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches.
