Softball Game Preview: Ashley Screaming Eagle vs. Topsail Pirates

Ashley hasn't had much luck against Topsail recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Ashley Screaming Eagle will be playing in front of their home fans against the Topsail Pirates at 5:00 p.m. The match will give Ashley their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.

Ashley is headed into Tuesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game dating back to last season on Thursday. They fell 10-7 to Swansboro. One positive for the Screaming Eagle, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Elin Bentley was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off 11 hits. Bentley was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Leah Tuscany was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Sawyer Rigdon, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Even though they lost, Ashley hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Swansboro struck out eight times.

Meanwhile, Topsail posted their closest win since February 26, 2024 on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over West Johnston. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Pirates.

Topsail's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Ashley, their loss dropped their record down to 0-4.
