Baseball Recap: Hickman Comes Up Short

Hickman extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 13-21 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Smith-Cotton Tigers. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Kewpies couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Smith-Cotton, they pushed their record up to 20-18 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games.

For Smith-Cotton's part, Jakobe Linn spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on seven hits. Linn has become a key player for the Tigers: the team is 5-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 15-17 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Smith-Cotton's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ian Jackson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.

As of now, neither Hickman nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
