Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Jelani North and Jonah Mati Lead Milpitas to Victory + How To Watch

It may have taken triple overtime to finish the job, but Milpitas ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Half Moon Bay Cougars 31-28. The victory almost wasn't to be: the Trojans were down 14-0 in the second quarter.

A big part of Milpitas' win came down to the chemistry between Jonah Mati and his top target Jelani North. Mati threw for 306 yards and three TDs while North picked up 52 receiving yards and three touchdowns. A healthy portion of Mati's aerial production (96 yards to be exact) also went to Sonny Elmashni.

Milpitas is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 30.0 points over those games. As for Half Moon Bay, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Milpitas will venture away from home to square off against Aragon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Half Moon Bay, they will head out to challenge Woodside at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least 31 points every time they've taken the field this season.
