Softball Game Preview: Rantoul Eagles vs. Centennial Chargers

The Rantoul Eagles will face off against the Centennial Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Rantoul will be strutting in after a victory while Centennial will be coming in after a defeat.

Rantoul will bounce into Monday's game after beating Villa Grove, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. The Eagles walked away with a 7-2 win over the Blue Devils on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Centennial was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Richwoods.

Zoe Goodreau was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Goodreau wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nobella Brown, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Maiyah Flemons was another, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Rantoul pushed their record up to 9-13 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Centennial, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-13.
