Perry Central is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Tuesday. They will host the St. Stanislaus Rock-a-Chaws at 7:00 p.m. Perry Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Perry Central took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They blew past East Marion 14-4. The Bulldogs haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Austin Jones was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cayson Backstrom, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Jones wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Perry Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for Perry Central: they were averaging 3.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matchups they've averaged 9.4.
Meanwhile, St. Stanislaus posted their closest win since April 12, 2024 on Saturday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Heritage Academy 4-2.
The team relied heavily on Warren Gunter, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI. Stephen Hutchison also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
St. Stanislaus is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. Perry Central's win bumped their record up to 3-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Perry Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Stanislaus struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Perry Central came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Stanislaus in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Does Perry Central have another victory up their sleeve, or will St. Stanislaus turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
