Football Game Preview: Cordova Lancers vs. McClatchy Lions

The Cordova Lancers will head out on the road to square off against the McClatchy Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cordova will be strutting in after a victory while McClatchy will be coming in after a defeat.

Cordova is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 19-6 win over Kennedy on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Lancers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Trey Wallace was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 121 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 14 carries, and also threw for 103 yards and one TD on only six passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (149.3). Damajae Moses also helped out with an impressive 87 receiving yards.

Another reason for the win was Cordova's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Julian Drahn, Chicago Bush, and Antonio West, who each picked up one sack apiece. Drahn was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making eight total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, after soaring to 34 points the game before, McClatchy was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They came up short against Antelope, falling 32-10. The game marked the Lions' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

McClatchy's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Cordova, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Cordova took their victory against McClatchy in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 27-7 score. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Lions' Jeremiah Giles, who rushed for 137 yards and one score while picking up 8.1 yards per carry.
