Baseball Recap: Monte Vista Snags Tenth Victory in Last 13 Games

With a playoff win on the line, Monte Vista rose to the challenge on Saturday. They walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Swink Lions. That's more bragging rights for the Pirates, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Kaden Mellott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 14 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Chayse Bouet, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Manny Jiron, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.

Monte Vista is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Swink, they dropped their record down to 12-11 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Monte Vista will challenge Yuma at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Outlaws have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season. Swink does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
