Softball Recap: Dominguez Comes Up Short

Dominguez extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to nine on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-7. They came up short against the Norwalk Lancers, falling 22-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 18-0 back in March.

As for Norwalk, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

For Norwalk's part, Mariah Favela and Sarina Galvan made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Favela pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Galvan tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Favela went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI, while Galvan got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Karla Diaz, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Audrina Ramos was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dominguez will challenge Bellflower at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Buccaneers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11 runs per game on average), something the Dons will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Norwalk, they will face off against Lynwood at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
