Basketball Recap: Chincoteague Takes a Loss

If Chincoteague was feeling good fresh off their 52-28 takedown of Holly Grove Christian last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Chincoteague Ponies were outmatched by the Arcadia Firebirds and fell 82-50. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Ponies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 74-41 last Tuesday.

Chincoteague's loss on Thursday came despite strong showings from Matthew Taylor and Camaury Davis. Taylor dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards, while Davis posted 17 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Taylor is now averaging an impressive 2.1 blocks per game.

Jordan Cropper continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Arcadia, going 11 of 18 en route to 27 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Cropper is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyrell Wise, who went 8 for 16 on his way to 16 points and four steals.

Chincoteague's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Arcadia, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-5.

Looking ahead, Chincoteague will head out to challenge Nandua at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Arcadia, they will welcome Northampton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
