Baseball Recap: Whitney Gets the Win

Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Thursday. Whitney skirted past St. Ignatius College Preparatory 3-1.

Noah Warner spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Whitney saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Mendoza, who went 1-for-4 with two runs. That's the most runs Mendoza has posted since back in March.

Whitney is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for St. Ignatius College Preparatory, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-7-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Whitney will square off against Jesuit at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for St. Ignatius College Preparatory, they will face off against Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Fightin' Irish's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
