Basketball Preview: Wink Wildcats vs. Fort Hancock Mustangs

Wink has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Fort Hancock Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Wink stacked an 11th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They really took it to Anthony for the full four quarters, racking up a 77-41 win at home. Given Wink's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 632nd, while the Wildcats are ranked 1349th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Aizlyn Dewberry was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 26 points, 12 rebounds, and ten steals. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last five games she's played. Crystal Quiroz was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals.

Meanwhile, Fort Hancock had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They strolled past Fabens with points to spare, taking the game 43-24. Fort Hancock pushed the score to 36-14 by the end of the third, a deficit the Wildcats cut but never quite recovered from.

Wink has been performing well recently as they've won 14 of their last 18 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-8 record this season. As for Fort Hancock, their victory bumped their record up to 20-6.

Wink strolled past the Mustangs in their previous meeting last Tuesday by a score of 53-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wink since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
