Volleyball Recap: Genoa-Hugo/Karval Victorious

While Genoa-Hugo/Karval's win against Briggsdale wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pirates narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Falcons 3-2. That's more bragging rights for the Pirates, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Genoa-Hugo/Karval got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 26-24, 17-25, 25-21, 11-25, 15-10.

Kazlei Vaughn paced Genoa-Hugo/Karval's offense, picking up 14 kills. Vaughn got some help from Rhegan Sitzman and her 23 assists. Amy James controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Briggsdale, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval and Briggsdale will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Pirates will square off against rival Stratton at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Briggsdale is set to take on their familiar foe Weldon Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
