Baseball Recap: Andrews Wildcats vs. Union County Panthers

Andrews had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 2-9 to make it eight. They lost 13-3 to the Union County Panthers. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 5-0 to the Panthers when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Logan Shular was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.

As for Union County, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-10. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.

On Union County's side, Tyler Richards looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts Richards has posted since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Maddox Patton was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one double. Union County is 7-1 when Patton posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Lane Haney was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Andrews didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-7 victory against Murphy on the 15th. As for Union County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, an 8-0 loss against Rockmart on the 18th.
