Basketball Recap: Rock Canyon Piles Up the Points Against Douglas County

You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Rock Canyon's strategy against Douglas County on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Rock Canyon Jaguars blew the Douglas County Huskies out of the water with a 78-48 final score. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 35th, while the Huskies are ranked 150th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rock Canyon's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jacob David, who went 10 of 12 en route to 24 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kasen Lehman, who went 9 for 13 on his way to 19 points and six boards.

Rock Canyon was working as a unit and finished the game with 25 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Douglas County lost, don't look at Vaughn Baldwin. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 13 en route to 15 points. Xavier Wynne was another key player, putting up six points.

Rock Canyon's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-9. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 27 points. As for Douglas County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rock Canyon will head out to challenge Mountain Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Vista will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something Rock Canyon surely won't give up without a fight. Douglas County has already played their next contest (against Glenwood Springs), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
