First Richmond-area player to commit to Indiana.
At the end of
Robert Johnson's junior season, his top offers were from VCU, Richmond and East Carolina. Fast-forward six months and he is an Indiana University commit.
After transferring from
Bird (Chesterfield, Va.) before the 2012-13 season and reclassifying, Johnson led the
Benedictine (Richmond, Va.) Cadets from a No. 4 seed in the VISAA tournament to a Division I state title.

Johnson was named first team All-State by the VISAA after averaging 16.7 points, 5.3 boards and 2.9 assists for the Cadets, who ended 32-5 overall.
The summer going into his senior season was when Johnson started to grab the attention from powerhouse programs such as Indiana, Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia and Alabama.
His player ranking jumped to the
No. 47 overall recruit in the country according to
247Sports.
Signing with the Hoosiers in November of 2013 and carrying the momentum from his success in the summer into his high school season, Johnson raised his averages to 24.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists during the 2013-14 season.
Benedictine didn't win the state championship, but ending up 25-7 against a schedule that included opponents like
Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.),
St. Benedict's Prep (Newark, N.J.), and
Huntington St. Joseph Prep (W. Va.) can't be looked at as anything but a success.
The Big Ten has shown a lot of success in the NCAA tournament this March. At the moment Indiana has the second-best recruiting class in the Big Ten with Top 50 recruits in Johnson and
James Blackmon Jr.
