Softball Recap: Orange Grove Takes a Loss

Orange Grove suffered their closest defeat since February 12, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the San Diego Vaqueros by a score of 17-15.

Avery Morgan and Ella Srubar stepped up to the plate in a big way. Morgan went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Srubar scored four runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5. That's the most hits Morgan has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Raelyn Perez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Orange Grove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 16 hits in three consecutive contests.

Orange Grove has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 11 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-9-1 record this season. The win (which was San Diego's eighth in a row) raised their record to 12-5.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Orange Grove is set to challenge their familiar foe Bishop at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, San Diego will take on rival Banquete at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
