Football Recap: Compass Academy Skates Past Alpine with Ease

Compass Academy hadn't done well against Alpine recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Cougars blew past the Bucks 52-3. Considering the Cougars have won four contests by more than 32 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Compass Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Valois Terecero led the charge by rushing for 129 yards and two scores while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Kasen Smart was another key player, rushing for 63 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Compass Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 293 rushing yards. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 76 rushing yards per game earlier this season, but in their last five matchups they've averaged 188.7.

Special teams also played a big role in the game for Compass Academy, adding 16 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Ryian Farris, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

The win was the third in a row for Compass Academy, bringing their record up to 6-1. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Alpine, Anthony, and Crane. As for the Bucks, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After each having a week off, Compass Academy and Crane will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Alpine, they will take on Anthony at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th.
