Basketball Recap: Elbert Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Elbert played a tough game on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Genoa-Hugo/Karval Pirates, falling 50-26. The Bulldogs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-10.

Despite the defeat, Elbert saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Piper Warren dropped a double-double with ten points and 13 boards. Warren has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more rebounds the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Melanie Hermes, who posted 11 points and five boards.

Genoa-Hugo/Karval's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kazlei Vaughn, who shot 45% from the field to rack up 12 points and five assists. Rylee Kelly was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.

Elbert's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-13. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.5 points on average over those games. As for Genoa-Hugo/Karval, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-11 record this season.
