Basketball Recap: West Carteret Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

West Carteret lost to Jacksonville back in February of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The West Carteret Patriots managed a 71-66 win over the Jacksonville Cardinals. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Patriots.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Carteret to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jay Murray, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Bell, who went 5 of 11 en route to 15 points.

West Carteret smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 22 consecutive matches dating back to last season.

West Carteret's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points per game. As for Jacksonville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

West Carteret will face off against J.H. Rose at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Jacksonville, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Havelock at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Jacksonville knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Havelock likes a good challenge.
