Baseball Recap: Las Animas Trojans vs. Fowler Grizzlies
Las Animas had lost three straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 15-5 to make it four. They fell just short of the Fowler Grizzlies by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Grizzlies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 on Friday.
Braydon Ortiz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Las Animas saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nicholas Duran, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases.
As for Fowler, the win was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-2. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.
On Fowler's side, Brock True made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). True was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.
