Basketball Recap: Aeria Hagans' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Washington County over Dodge County

Washington County has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-57 heartbreaker at the hands of the Dodge County Indians. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Golden Hawks have suffered since January 2, 2024.

Several Golden Hawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aeria Hagans, who posted 17 points along with seven assists and five rebounds. The game was Hagans' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Kitchens, who had 12 points in addition to seven assists and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Washington County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 26 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Washington County's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-5. As for Dodge County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington County will face off against Baldwin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Baldwin has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Dodge County, they will challenge Dublin at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
