Softball Recap: Mt. Shasta Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Mt. Shasta dropped their record down to 8-6-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Etna Lions. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Bears couldn't push the score so high this time.

Emily Pigoni spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

As for Etna, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games.

On Etna's side, Jane Thackeray was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Thackeray was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Etna let Kami Hyatt and Bailey Johnson run wild. Hyatt went 2-for-3 with one home run and one triple, while Johnson went 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Lila Jones, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mt. Shasta beat Etna by a score of 13-12 later that day.
