Preview: Klondike Cougars vs. Benjamin Mustangs
Klondike has enjoyed the comforts of home their last three games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will take on the Benjamin Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Klondike walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 100-62 win over the Bears at home. Yes, you read that score correctly, and yes, they were playing football.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Klondike to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jared Quintanilla, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 171 yards and three touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Creed Warren, who rushed for 84 yards and four touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Benjamin put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by Jayton on the road to the tune of 85-40. Benjamin's victory was all the more impressive since Jayton was averaging only 17 points allowed on the season.
Benjamin got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Grayson Rigdon out in front who rushed for 278 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 13.9 yards per carry, and also threw for 218 yards and three touchdowns while completing 90.9% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Keegan Hayes, who gained 236 total yards and four touchdowns.
Klondike's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.7 points per game. As for Benjamin, their win bumped their record up to 13-0.
