Baseball Recap: Dilley Find Success

Dilley's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Natalia Mustangs 4-3. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Jesse Hernadez made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Dilley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 3-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Johnny Rodriguez was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Isaiah Lambert was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Dilley's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 9-5. As for Natalia, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.

Coming up, Dilley will welcome Cotulla at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cotulla has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed eight runs per game on average), something Dilley will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Natalia, they will head out on the road to take on Hondo at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hondo will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Natalia surely won't give up without a fight.
