Basketball Game Preview: St. John Paul II Panthers vs. Franklin County Seahawks

St. John Paul II fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Jefferson County on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 38-36. While the Panthers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Tigers 6-1 in the first quarter.

Despite their loss, St. John Paul II saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Aliyah Medrano, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards, was perhaps the best of all. What's more, Medrano also racked up six steals, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Ashlyn Naumann, who posted nine points in addition to five rebounds and four steals.

Meanwhile, Franklin County hadn't done well against Port St. Joe recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Franklin County walked away with a 34-26 win over Port St. Joe.

Franklin County is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.8 points per game. As for St. John Paul II, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
