Baseball Recap: Fernley Extends Road Winning Streak to Four

Fernley proved they can win big last Friday (they won by seven) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Spring Creek Spartans 5-3. For the Vaqueros, this counts as revenge for the 8-7 victory the Spartans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Dylon Comer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. Fernley is 4-2 when Comer allows one or fewer earned runs, but 3-11-1 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Riley McCullar, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Fernley: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 4-12-1 otherwise.

Fernley's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-13-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Spring Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 13-11.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Fernley beat the Spartans by a score of 10-9 on Saturday.
