The Western Boone Stars will challenge the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
13 must be Western Boone's lucky number: they beat Frankfort with that score not once but twice on Thursday. The Stars didn't even let the Hot Dogs on the board, marking the Stars' second-straight 13-0 shutout. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Mickey Burns was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Addi Lee was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Kenzlei Mathews was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.
Western Boone kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Guerin Catholic came into Wednesday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Pike on Wednesday as they made off with a 13-1 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Golden Eagles needed considering they were shut out in their previous contest.
Like Western Boone, Guerin Catholic also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Augustinovicz. She struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Augustinovicz was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Jillian Davis was a standout: she got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs. Another player making a difference was Anna Mauch, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Western Boone's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Guerin Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Western Boone hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. However, it's not like Guerin Catholic struggles in that department as they've averaged .321. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Western Boone took their win against Guerin Catholic in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 13-1 score. Will the Stars repeat their success, or do the Golden Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
