Basketball Recap: Sunnyside Starts Season with Victory Against Gila Ridge

Sunnyside had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Gila Ridge Hawks 76-16. That's more bragging rights for the Blue Devils, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Dora Medina went supernova, dropping a double-double with 17 points and 12 steals. Those 12 steals gave her a new career-high. Esabella Barajas was another key player, going 7-for-13 on her way to 18 points and eight steals.

Sunnyside was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gila Ridge only posted three.

Coming up, Sunnyside will head out on the road to challenge Sabino at 11:20 a.m. on Monday. As for Gila Ridge, they have already played their next contest, a 36-18 victory against Casa Grande on the 20th.
