Football Game Preview: San Ysidro Cougars vs. Southwest SD Raiders + Official Tickets

The San Ysidro Cougars will square off against the Southwest SD Raiders at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Friday, San Ysidro humbled Castle Park with a 55-7 victory. That looming 55-7 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Cougars yet this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead San Ysidro to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sean Blazen, who rushed for 152 yards and three TDs on only 11 carries. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Blazen a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Landeros, who rushed for 42 yards and a pair of scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: San Ysidro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 287 rushing yards. They are a perfect 5-0 when they've run for more than 200 yards.

Meanwhile, Southwest SD was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-39 heartbreaker at the hands of Mar Vista.

San Ysidro will have to contain Samuel Gonzales as he made an impact in Southwest SD's last game. He rushed for 246 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.5 yards per carry, and also picked up 50 receiving yards. With that strong performance, Gonzales is now averaging an impressive 105.6 rushing yards per game.

San Ysidro is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Southwest SD, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. San Ysidro has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 239.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Southwest SD struggles in that department as they've been averaging 155.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

San Ysidro came up short against Southwest SD when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 34-21. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
