Softball Recap: San Manuel Takes a Loss

If San Manuel was riding high fresh off their 26-11 takedown of Baboquivari last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Miners fell just short of the Maryvale Panthers by a score of 10-8 on Wednesday.

Brianna Ivy and Laila Ruiz did some serious damage despite the final result: Ivy scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Ruiz went a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double. Ruiz has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Cienna Maghinay was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-5.

San Manuel's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for Maryvale, their record now sits at 9-6.

Looking ahead, San Manuel is taking a road trip to challenge Superior at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Panthers will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Miners surely won't give up without a fight. As for Maryvale, they will welcome Cibola at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season.
