League recap: West Craven climbs in state rankings with win

West Craven moved up to 147 from 178 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Coastal. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of a 26-14 win over South Central.

Havelock extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Washington, 34-7. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Rams.

Davis Kirkpatrick and Walker Cummings gave Conley a balanced attack through the air and ground last week. Kirkpatrick threw for 49 yards and one touchdown, while Cummings ran for 124 yards. Myles Taylor also contributed to the rushing game with 115 yards on the ground.

Kris Lindner was the best wideout in the league this week as West Carteret lost to Jacksonville. Lindner tallied three receptions for 50 yards. Jake Freeman helped West Carteret's passing attack out by catching three balls for 32 yards.

Havelock's Pharoh Cooper and Michael Bowman have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Coastal in both passing and receiving yards. Cooper has thrown for 1373 yards this season, while Bowman, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 25 catches for 436 yards. The Patriots' Trevor Festerman leads the league in rushing yards with 1003.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Vikings take on West Carteret. At the moment, Conley is in second, while Todd Nelson's team is in fifth.

The Cardinals and the Patriots played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with the Cardinals eventually emerging with a 3-0 victory.
