Basketball Game Preview: Murray Spartans vs. Olympus Titans

Murray hasn't had much luck against Olympus recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The two teams will round out the year against one another at at 7:00 p.m. Murray knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Olympus likes a good challenge.

Last Saturday, Murray lost to Lehi on the road by a 81-64 margin. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (62), the Spartans still had to take the loss.

Despite the defeat, Murray got top-tier performance from Treyce Wilson, who went 9 for 13 on his way to 20 points. Those 20 points gave Wilson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Davies, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points and six rebounds.

Meanwhile, Olympus faced Layton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. Olympus came out on top against Layton by a score of 62-55. The win was familiar territory for the Titans who have now won four contests in a row.

Olympus' victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.9 points per game. As for Murray, they now have a losing record at 5-6.

Murray came up short against Olympus when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 80-76. Can Murray avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
