Boonville has gone a perfect 10-0 against Mexico recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Pirates will host the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Boonville lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Marshall, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's contest. The Pirates' pitchers stepped up to hand the Owls an 8-0 shutout on Thursday. The Pirates not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 16-1).
Meanwhile, Mexico came tearing into Monday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They didn't even let the Owls on the board, marking their second-straight 10-0 shutout. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 matches by six runs or more this season.
Sam Ryan made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Drew DeMint was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Austin Maxwell, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Mexico hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.
Boonville is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Mexico, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-11.
Boonville took their win against Mexico when the teams last played back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Do the Pirates have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
