Basketball Recap: Joe Taylor's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Roncalli over Guerin Catholic

Roncalli lost against Guerin Catholic back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Roncalli Royals fell 55-46 to the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles.

Several Royals players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Joe Taylor, who went 6-for-11 on his way to 16 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Schmaltz, who posted 11 points and six assists.

Guerin Catholic's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jake Grissom, who went 7-for-10 to rack up 17 points and three steals. Bryson Cardinal was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and ten boards.

Roncalli's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 13-7. As for Guerin Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Roncalli will challenge Lafayette Central Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Roncalli is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54 points per game this season. As for Guerin Catholic, they will host University at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
