Baseball Recap: Cumberland Comes Up Short

After flying high against Nottoway on Tuesday, Cumberland came back down to earth. The Dukes came up short against the Buckingham Knights on Wednesday, falling 14-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Dukes of the 19-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

Chase Wise made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Cumberland's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Buckingham, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Coming up, Cumberland will head out to face off against Altavista at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Buckingham, they will take on Appomattox County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Raiders' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
