High school football rankings: Austin Westlake climbs to No. 4 in MaxPreps Top 25 after win over North Shore

Chaparrals stun back-to-back champs, face Quinn Ewers and Southlake Carroll in 'Dodge Bowl' title game.

Westlake (Austin, Texas) moved up six spots to No. 4 in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings after the Chaparrals upset two-time defending champion North Shore (Houston) 24-21 to advance to the Texas 6A Division 1 title game. Junior quarterback Cade Klubnik scored the go-ahead touchdown from 1-yard out on fourth down in the final two minutes to snap the Mustangs' 29-game win streak.

Westlake's victory combined with Southlake Carroll's 34-27 win over Duncanville sets up the "Dodge Bowl" as Todd Dodge – head coach at Westlake – takes on son Riley Dodge, who is the head coach at Carroll. How about that for a championship storyline?

Southlake Carroll was this week's biggest mover, jumping 11 spots to No. 10 as sophomore running back Owen Allen led the way in an upset of previous No. 5 Duncanville. He accounted for 245 total yards and two touchdowns as the Dragons advanced to the state championship game for the first time since 2011.

No. 9 Denton Ryan clinched a spot in the 5A Division 1 state championship with a 49-35 win over Mansfield Summit (Arlington). Oklahoma signee Billy Bowman hauled in 13 receptions for 134 yards and a score. The Raiders must get past unbeaten Cedar Park for their first state title since 2002.

The Texas 6A Division 2 championship will also feature two MaxPreps Top 25 teams as No. 18 Cedar Hill faces No. 19 Katy on Jan. 16. Kaidon Salter led Cedar Hill to a 27-17 win over Guyer (Denton) while Katy cruised to a dominant 63-7 win over Hays (Buda) in the other semifinal.

This will mark the fourth time since 2012 that Cedar Hill meets Katy in a state championship game. The powerhouse programs met three consecutive years from 2012 to 2014 with Cedar Hill winning two of three.
Southlake Carroll players celebrate their 6A Division 1 semifinal won over Duncanville on Saturday. The victory sets up a championship game with Austin Westlake and a battle between father and son head coaches.
