Baseball Recap: Saturday's Win Is Walton-Verona's Fifth in Last Six Outings

Walton-Verona's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. They came out on top against the Eastern Eagles by a score of 5-2.

Aidan Kerns spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Walton-Verona saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cole Dryden, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Trever Bauwens also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Walton-Verona has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Eastern, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5.

Walton-Verona and Eastern should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Kentucky Rankings. The Bearcats will challenge Gallatin County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (94 vs. 239). The timing is sure in Walton-Verona's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while the Wildcats have been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road. Meanwhile, Eastern (ranked 13th) will meet Shelby County (ranked 134th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
