Softball Recap: Peninsula Catholic Comes Up Short

Peninsula Catholic entered their match against Cape Henry Collegiate on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Knights lost 17-8 to the Dolphins. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Knights have suffered since May 3, 2024.

Alyssa Casey was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while going 4-for-5. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season.

Casey wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addison Dent, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Ava O'Shaughnessy-Tong was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Peninsula Catholic's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-3. As for Cape Henry Collegiate, their win ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-2.

Coming up, Peninsula Catholic will head out to face off against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Saints will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Knights surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cape Henry Collegiate, they will welcome Christchurch School at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Seahorses have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.5 runs per game on average), something the Dolphins will no doubt try to take advantage of.
