High school football: Alvin Henderson among state record breakers back for more in 2024

By Kevin Askeland Aug 27, 2024, 2:30pm

Henderson rushed for over 3,500 yards last fall to break Alabama record.

High school football players broke 94 state records during the 2023 season, according to records kept in the MaxPreps National High School Football Record Book.

Along with the national record book, MaxPreps also keeps state records in 42 different categories. The state records have been recently updated with a total of 94 new records added to the list. Of the state records that fell, Gage Baker of Paradise Honors (Surprise, Ariz.) had seven of them. In addition to breaking state records for single-season yards (6,045), completions (380), attempts (503), and touchdowns (91), Baker also broke career records for passing touchdowns (173) and single-game records for completions (46) and passing touchdowns (91).

Jack Smith of Lincoln (Sioux Falls, S.D.), meanwhile, broke multiple receiving records in his state. Those included career receiving yards (3,242), receptions (217) and touchdowns (43) along with the record for single-game touchdowns (5).

Several record breakers return for the 2024 season. Alvin Henderson of Elba (Ala.) will look to break records his own records from last fall, including single-season rushing yards (3,523) and single-season touchdowns (68) and points (408).
