Softball Game Preview: Hilltop Lancers vs. Southwest SD Raiders

Hilltop has gone a perfect 3-0 against Southwest SD recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Lancers will host the Raiders at 3:30 p.m. Hilltop is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

On Monday, Hilltop didn't have quite enough to beat Morse and fell 9-8.

Olivia Mertz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nevaeh Matos, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Southwest SD lost 16-5 to Sweetwater on Tuesday. The defeat continues a trend for the Raiders in their meetings with the Red Devils: they've now lost six in a row.

Southwest SD saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniela Nieto, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was Nieto's first of the season. Samantha Ramirez was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Southwest SD's loss dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Hilltop, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-10-1.

Hilltop skirted past Southwest SD 5-3 when the teams last played back in February of 2019. Will the Lancers repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
