Football Recap: Austin-East Takes a Loss

Austin-East extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-6. They had to suffer through a 42-0 loss at the hands of the Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders. The game marked the first time this year in which the Roadrunners were not able to get on the board.

Spencer Moore threw for 50 yards on eight of 20 attempts. Sam Cochran was his top target, picking up 31 receiving yards.

As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0. The result was nothing new for the Highlanders, who have now won six matchups by 27 points or more so far this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gatlinburg-Pittman to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jackson Savarese, who picked up 112 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Savarese also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making two total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defending four passes. Another back making a difference was Brayden Maples, who gained 103 total yards and three touchdowns.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Austin-East will venture away from home to face off against Carter at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Johnson County at 7:00 p.m. on the 24th. The Highlanders will be up against the Longhorns' rather soft defense (which has allowed 30.29 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
