Basketball Recap: Canton Drops Season-High Score on Coginchaug Regional

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canton). They managed a 61-56 win over the Coginchaug Regional Blue Devils on Thursday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Warriors' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 25th).

Despite the loss, Coginchaug Regional still got an impressive performance from Sophie Farr, who went 11-for-27 on her way to 24 points in addition to six steals and five boards. Farr's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddy Benbow, who posted 19 points and five rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for Canton and bumps their season record up to 4-8. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points over those games. As for Coginchaug Regional, their loss dropped their record down to 17-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Canton will face off against East Windsor at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. East Windsor will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Canton surely won't give up without a fight. As for Coginchaug Regional, they will challenge Cromwell at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Coginchaug Regional is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.4 points per game this season.
