Basketball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Fivay's Winning Streak

After a string of five wins, Fivay's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They received a blow as they fell 77-62 to the Mitchell Mustangs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 82-75 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Fivay lost, don't look at Sean Brown. Despite the final result, he went 5 of 12 en route to 14 points and three steals. Brown continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Odell Brown, who posted six points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Fivay smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive games.

It was another big night for Christopher Stoddart, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 15 boards for Mitchell. The dominant performance also gave Stoddart a new career-high in blocks (three). Cameron Herzek also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Fivay's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-6. As for Mitchell, they pushed their record up to 11-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Fivay didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 66-40 win against Anclote on the 25th. As for Mitchell, they will challenge Strawberry Crest at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Strawberry Crest will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Mitchell surely won't give up without a fight.
