Recap: Simon Tech Huskies vs. Animo Venice Pirates
The Simon Tech Huskies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 117-5 loss at the hands of Animo Venice. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Simon Tech has scored all season.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Simon Tech struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Leading Animo Venice to victory were Elliot Smith and Rashad Johnson. Smith scored 32 points along with nine rebounds and five steals, while Johnson dropped a double-double on 42 points and 11 steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least 25% of Animo Venice's points. Another player making a difference was Ethan Waters, who scored 13 points along with six assists.
Simon Tech's defeat was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-4. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.8 points per game. As for Animo Venice, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-7.
Simon Tech will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Animo Pat Brown at 4:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Animo Pat Brown is ranked 1345th, while Simon Tech is ranked 1351st). Animo Venice will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Castaic at 4:00 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
