Baseball Recap: Upland Takes a Loss

Upland had lost 18 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 4-22 to make it 19. They fell just short of the Chino Hills Huskies by a score of 2-1. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 on Monday.

Issac Carlos was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

As for Chino Hills, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games.

On Chino Hills' side, Brody Buoncristiani made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Buoncristiani a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Buoncristiani wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gabe Hernandez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run. Those two hits gave Hernandez a new career-high.

While Upland had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
