Softball Game Preview: Northside Vikings vs. Staunton River Golden Eagles

Northside hasn't had much luck against Staunton River recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Vikings will head out to challenge the Golden Eagles at 6:00 p.m.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Northside's offense. They lost 10-0 to Salem on Thursday. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Vikings' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Meanwhile, Staunton River came tearing into last Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 10-7. That's two games straight that the Golden Eagles have won by exactly three runs.

Staunton River pushed their record up to 7-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Northside, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Northside couldn't quite get it done against Staunton River in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-0. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
