Softball Game Preview: Southeast Career Tech Roadrunners vs. Basic Wolves

Southeast Career Tech is 0-4 against Basic since April of 2019 but things could change on Saturday. The Roadrunners will look to defend their home field against the Wolves at 11:00 a.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Southeast Career Tech is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Spring Valley 8-7. The Roadrunners haven't had any issues with the Grizzlies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Meanwhile, Basic beat Rancho 6-2 on Thursday.

Melanie Hughes made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Basic let Natalee Ramos and Mia Frias run wild. Ramos went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Frias went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Ramos a new career-high.

Southeast Career Tech pushed their record up to 18-9 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Basic, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season.

Southeast Career Tech couldn't quite finish off Basic in their previous matchup back in March and fell 8-6. Can the Roadrunners avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
