The Mendenhall Tigers will face off against the Loyd Star Hornets at 10:20 a.m. on Saturday. Mendenhall knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Loyd Star likes a good challenge.
It was a proper cat-fight when Mendenhall challenged Quitman on Thursday. Mendenhall didn't even let Quitman on the board, marking Mendenhall's second-straight 13-0 shutout. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Tatum Berry was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Emma Fewell was another key player, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 2-for-2.
Berry wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Mendenhall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Loyd Star got themselves on the board against Bogue Chitto on Thursday, but Bogue Chitto never followed suit. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Bobcats 2-0. The win was familiar territory for the Hornets, who have now won four contests in a row.
Not much got past Layla Burt, who gave up just six hits and racked up six Ks to keep Bogue Chitto off the board. Burt has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Loyd Star saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adi Holcomb, who went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Mendenhall's record is now 11-4-1. As for Loyd Star, their record now sits at 13-4.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mendenhall hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .443. However, it's not like Loyd Star struggles in that department as they've averaged .317. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
