Wood took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They snuck past the Fairfield Falcons with a 42-38 victory. This was payback for the Wildcats, who suffered a 26-14 loss the last time these two teams met.

When it comes to explaining why Fairfield lost, don't look at Tristen Smith. Despite the final result, he threw for 325 yards and four TDs while picking up 12.5 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 135 yards and one touchdown on only 12 carries.

Wood and Fairfield could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Wildcats will square off against American Canyon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (484 vs. 230). Meanwhile, Fairfield (ranked 652nd) will meet Sutter (ranked 195th) at 7:15 p.m. on Friday.
